Unable to create new folder in Windows 7
I am unable to create a new folder by any means in Windows 7. From within Windows Explorer if I select the "New Folder" option, nothing happens. Also, from the Desktop, the "Folder" option does not show when right-clicking and selecting "New".
I have done a system restore back beyond where I knew it was working and am still not able to create a new folder.
What's wrong... Please write below.
For reasons unknown, when I click "New Folder" on the toolbar (via WIndows Explorer or any window where this appears on the Toolbar/Command bar) nothing happens. I'm unable to create a new folder in the window that's open. Doesn't matter where I try this, it's not working.
I'm logged in with my regular User profile, which has Admin privileges. (It isn't that the "New Folder" words don't appear on the toolbar . it's just that it doesn't work to create a new folder in the window.) I can see other files in the folder, as well as other previous folders, but I can't create any new folders where I'd like them. I've looked in the Folder Options, and everything looks fine.
I lost create new folder ability, windows explorer. Windows 7 now only allows creation of "New briefcase" folder instead. I am not sure of any MS upgrade that caused this change. I would like to Pros and Cons of "Briefcase" folders and also
How to revert or use to good old file folder create capability?
I have a Windows 7 Professional, SP1 box that has a fileshare on a 2008 Enterprise server 64 bit SP2 where the user has been trying to create a folder. Randomly she receives the "unable to create the folder "name of folder" Too many files opened for sharing".
This seems to be causing by the syncing utility for offline folders. I have a fileshare on the 2008 server labeled "share1" which has many folders and levels.
The allow offline files on the fileshare was enabled and on the Windows 7 box the fileshare was configured to synchronized.
Here is what I did to diagnose the issue. I ran the program that creates the folder from the Windows 7 box, then checked the UNC path from the Windows 7 box to confirm folder is created, which it was.
I logged into the server and went to the mapped drive to that directory which the folder as not present (F5 did not show the folder) From the server I typed the UNC path to the folder which did not exist.
Went to dos on the server to the layer above the created folder and did a "dir" which did not show the newly created folder.
I then turned off the allow files to be available offline on the fileshare of the 2008 server. Then I disable offline folders on the Windows 7 box. After disabling both of these the application is quickly creating the new folder which can also be seen from the server without any issues.

Also, I am unable to empty the recycle bin. No error messages at all, asks me if I want to delete these 19 files (I click yes) and then nothing happens.
but I did have a message a few times that Windows wasn't shut down properly, but the system checks/rollbacks don't find anything.
This is a laptop that was formerly a Vista machine. Windows 7 clean-installed (since it wouldn't update) and there is very little on it. 64-bit; 6gb ram;500gb HD.
Unable to create new folder on desktop, Any drive. tried shortcuts but no use.
I am using windows 7 home basic 64 bit OS in my Laptop.Recently I came across a peculier problem. I try to create a New Folder in my external hard drive using windows menu bar command "New folder".But the folder was not created.
But I can create the new folder in same external drive from right click menu.
Also the command menu of"New folder" works while I am creating new folder in my Laptop Hard drives. It is not working only in my External hard drive.

Windows does not create a new folder when the new folder is picked. New command does not have folder option. I have to copy an existing folder into the folder I want it created, delete all the files and change the name of the folder to get the same result. Is there a recent windows update that created this problem?
I keep getting errors stating that it is unable to save files under the public folder.
I have attempted to correct the security, and remove the read only attribute on the public folder.
However when I return the settings are restored to the way they were.
This has always been one thing I despise about Windows, the Owner, and Admin is really only given the illusion of control.
Anyone know how to fix this problem? The maker of the software "Rockwell Automation" tells me they do not support Windows 7.
I tried to install the software as an Administrator and I am able to get into:
