How to Disable Auto Arrange
Undo auto arrange for documents
I just installed Windows 7. With Vista, I could arrange my documents anyway I see fit; however, with Windows 7 I am unable to do so. My question, is there a way to disable the auto arrange so I can arrange My Documents the way I want? This is a deal breaker. If M.S. does not have this feature I will change my OS [to Apple]--once again, it is time I buy a new computer.
Windows 7 does not have the Auto Arrange Option/or can not be turned off
So, why Windows 7 turns off Auto Arrange ? I feel very annoying that I cannot arrange the files/pictures the way I want.
Keeping files organised and having the option to is great but having it forced upon me is not! I keep the majority of my pictures/files in alphabetical order but there are certain files/pictures which came from different sources and I access regularly and would like to keep out of sorting sequence made automatically by Windows 7.
Was the Windows 7 wiritten in such a way that the Auto arrange option is disabled? Or this option can be re-enabled. Please somebody helps with an answer!
I know I am not the only user that feels this way as I have seen thread after thread asking how to disable auto arrrange within folders.

Auto Arrange fix/hack
For all of you Windows 7 users who have been annoyed (like myself) at the removal of "Auto Arrange", a fix/hack has been discovered.
I’m writing this article specifically for Windows 7, because the FullRowSelect registry key that you used in Windows Vista, doesn’t work in Windows 7.
Auto arrange menu option is back. Atlast, you can disable Auto arrange option when in "icons" view. This wasn’t possible in Windows 7 earlier.
It involves editing the Registry so I don't reccomend it for everyone, however, I have had limited Registry Editing experience and I was able to follow the step by step instructions with complete success. I can confirm that the fix/hack does enable you to use "Auto Arrange" but I can not guarentee that your system will remain stable after the edit, as editing the Registry can cause problems if done incorrectly. If you edit the Registry you do so at your own risk.
Arrange file/folder information- do not want to "auto arrange"
I am using Windows 7 Ultimate. I want to be able to arrange icons and pictures in a file or folder. I DO NOT want them to "auto arrange". This is such a simple thing, but everywhere I look it is telling me to arrange by "something" ie. date, tag, size, etc. I simply want to move them into the order I want them
Auto-arrange Desktop Icons to the Right
I'm looking for any way that I can have Windows auto arrange my desktop icons to the right side of the screen rather than the standard left side. Just dragging and manually arranging my icons on the right side of the desktop is tedious and annoying.
And, before anyone posts, I do know of a Stardock program called Fences, but It does not have the auto-arrange functionality that I want.
Unable to cancel auto arrange of folders in library, pictures and document
cannot move folders or items in folders to other locations within 'pictures' or 'documents'. The black, vertical location bar does not appear when I click on a folder to move it around , and on releasing the mouse button the folder returns to it's origional position. Tried both left and right clicking on folders and in spaces in between but no option to deselect 'auto arrange ' appears, - only variuos options within an auto arrange system
Why has the ability to deactivate Auto Arrange been removed in Windows 7?
Why in Windows 7 has the ability to turn off Auto Arrange been removed apart from on the desktop? I find it highly annoying that I cannot arrange the files how I want to.
Keeping files organised and having the option to is great but having it forced upon me is not! I keep the majority of my files in alphabetical order but there are certain files which I access regularly and would like to keep out of sequence without having to add them to 'favourites' or some other directory.
No "Auto-arrange" option in context menu
The auto-arrange feature in the Sort context menu for a folder with images is missing.
Some friends told me they have it with Windows 7 RC.
It seems on some PCs it is, in others don't. Why ?
How to turn off annoying Auto Arrange in folder view?
I'm not talking about sorting icons on Desktop. I need to be able to sort icons MANUALLY in folder. I could do this in Windows XP, 2000, 98, 95, but not in Win7.
Will this "auto arrange" bug be fixed in Windows7 Service Pack 1?

Turning on Desktop auto-arrange through registry?
After imaging many, many Win 7 systems, we discovered that the Desktop | View | "Auto Arrange" option and "Align to grid" option were off. We want them on (because the computers are in public spaces).
Is there a set of registry settings or group policy settings that we can use to turn those options on?

Dissable Auto Arrange in Windows 7
When is Microsoft going to reinstate the "Dissable Auto Arrange" feature in windows 7??? I cant stand not being able to move files where I want to!! This is the ONE simple thing that made windows personalized!
There are thousands of posts all over the internet about people who are very angry that this feature is missing! I have left my words on the Windows 7 Feedback site, and I do it weekly so Microsoft will know that myself, and everyone out there are very serious about this issue! It keeps me from doing my work at my place of employment. I have to use Virtual PC and Vista to do my work now which is a huge pain in the rear! I shouldent have to do this after spending $300.00+ on Windows 7 Ultimate!
How to Disable Auto Restoration
I want to disable auto restoration of windows. Suppose if I delete a file say explorer.exe after a while it will create again by windows. If I change any registery it will restore automatically. I have checked it. I have changed the registery but it has been restore it.
auto-arrange in folders is horrible!
so i want to arrange my documents in their own order just like on previous versions of windows but someone made a completely stupid decision to TAKE-AWAY user-control. why on earth would they take away the option for us to control our own damn organization. incompetent decisions like this don't make me walk away from windows... you guys are literally pushing me away to mac
maybe i don't want my entire computer in alphabetical order, or by date, but apparently someone couldn't figure that out
How is there no way to turn off auto arrange?
It is absolutley ridiculous that Microsoft has taken away my ability to arrange files within folders the way I want. I am a photographer and I process more than 1000 images per day, and it is beyond frustrating to not be able to see my photo sequence before I rename every single file. How can Microsoft overlook such an important feature??? This is the mosit idiotic change I have yet to come across, and frankly it's enough for me to switch to a Mac, something I never thought I'd do. I've always fully supported Microsoft and it's products, until this ridiculous set back. You cannot even begin to understand how irritating this is. I've never been more dissapointed in a product, and I fully regret EVER choosing a PC over a Mac.
Arrange windows side by side on the desktop using Snap
You can use Snap to arrange windows side by side, which can be especially helpful when comparing two documents or when moving files from one place to another. (Snap might not work on some programs that have custom window behaviors.) Watch this video to learn how to arrange windows side-by-side on the desktop using Snap.
Customizing the desktop
The desktop is the work area on a computer screen that simulates the top of an actual desk. The desktop contains the Recycle Bin and icons (shortcuts to programs, files, folders, and various types of documents such as letters, reports, or pictures) that you can arrange just as you'd arrange real objects on a desk.
