Homegroup Icon on Desktop Since Today - How to Ret Rid Of This? Icon

Suddenly, a couple of minutes ago, a Homegroup desktop icon appeared on my desktop. I don't seem to be able to get rid of this icon, even if I leave the homegroup that's been enabled by default.

Where's this icon suddenly coming from? And how can I get rid of it? It's unnecessarily cluttering up my desktop.

Getting Rid of Homegroup Button

So I recently installed windows 7 on my desktop and my laptop. I fresh installed on my desktop, and have no homegroup icon showing up on my desktop. I used the upgrade option on my laptop however, to keep all my data.

But, I have the annoying homegroup icon showing up on my laptop's desktop and its pretty much impossible to get rid of as from what I see. I know there is the little registry edit trick, So if anyone knows how to get rid of the homegroup icon without using regedit, I'd love to know!

I have some files being downloaded. When I came home, I tried to create folder on my desktop. When I created the folder, the default icon was "unknown". When I right click on the folder, and went to the "change icon" tab, the icon was the default icon for folder.

Then I click on "change icon" and I selected again the default folder icon.

But every time I create folder it is by default an unknown file. The funny thing is that if I create a folder inside other folder,

HomeGroup from start to finish

A homegroup is a group of computers on a home network that can share files and printers. Using a homegroup makes sharing easier. You can share pictures, music, videos, documents, and printers with other people in your homegroup. Other people can't change the files that you share unless you give them permission to do so. You can help protect your homegroup with a password, which you can change at any time...

Join a homegroup

After someone on your network creates a homegroup, the next step is to join it. You will need the homegroup password, which you can get from the person who created the homegroup. When you join a homegroup, all user accounts on your computer become members of the homegroup. Watch this video to learn how to join a homegroup.

My computer was formatted because it cannot join the homegroup. After the formatting, I plug in the cable that connects to other computer. Then, I joined the homegroup. But, I clicked the leave homegroup and it successfully removed my computer from the homegroup.

When I tried to add it back, it doesn't see the existing homegroup that still contains the other computers. Instead, it shows create a homegroup. But the homegroup is still existed but I can't find it.

First of I am having the same issue as one of your members had before but the links to resolve the problem were taken down here is the link:

I used a program to change the default icon on programs and I made a mistake when I changed the default icon for the .exe not knowing that all the icons on my desktop would look the same now since they are all .exe.

I can't do a system restore and I need them to go back to default I am running Win 7 64x Pro

Leave Windows 7 Homegroup, Cannot leave homegroup from broken computer

Leave Windows 7 Homegroup, Cannot leave homegroup from broken computer Icon

We finally have all computers in the house running widows 7 and would like to set up a homegroup. The problem is a homegroup was set up a few years ago on a laptop, and that laptop is no longer functioning (fried motherboard) as I understand the only way to delete the homegroup is for all parties to leave that group.

This is no longer possible because the last computer that is connected is not accessible.

I have tried setting up a new new network and wireless account thinking that might reset or change the location setting os the homegroup but it is still present. The only option I have to do is "Join Homegroup" and I no longer have that computer and thus cannot access the password to that homegroup Is there another way to delete or access this homegroup?

Unble to leave Homegroup

I had two computers connected to the same homegroup. The computer which I started the homegroup on got formatted and reinstalled. Now I can't leave the old homegroup with the other computer, and the formated one can't join the old homegroup because I don't remember the homegroup password. When I go to the Homegroup screen it shows me this:

How do I leave the homegroup so I could connect to the new one?
