Action queries
Microsoft Access / Functions and Expressions
Action queries are queries that permit us in just one operation to perform changes on one o various rows in a table. With these queries we can create a new table including in it the records of another, change the data stored, insert new records or erase old records. Learn how to Make-table queries, Update queries, Append queries, Delete queries and Unshowing confirmation messages

Working with Queries
Microsoft Access / Data Manipulation
Queries are the stars of Microsoft Access. Queries make sense out of all the thousands of jumbled records and display exactly what you need to know. Queries discover things like what the average price of tea in China is or which customers bought the most parakeet food from your company. Queries can even make widespread changes to the records in your database without wearing out your mouse and keyboard! For example, a delete query can automatically delete a whole bunch of records that meet your criteria.

Summary queries
Microsoft Access / Functions and Expressions
In Access we can define a special query to calculate totals on the records of a table (or various tables related). In order to obtain those totals we use summary functions so it is why we call them summary queries.

Action Queries
Microsoft Access / Data Manipulation
We have used the concept of a query so far only to create a list of fields that would be considered for a set of records. We also mentioned that a query in Microsoft Access is simply a means of visually representing data. Indeed, a query is based on a SQL statement. As SQL is its own, fully functional language, we can use it to perform far more operations than to only select columns for a query.

Crosstab queries
Microsoft Access / Functions and Expressions
A crosstab query is used when we want to represent a summary query with two grouping columns like a double input table, in which each one of the group columns is an entry, one down the left side of the datasheet and the other across the top. Learn the crosstab Query wizard and the design view of a crosstab query.

It's easy to print a simple list of records in a table or query just click the Print button on the toolbar. But if you want your printed hard copies to look professional and include calculations, graphics, or a customized header or footer, you'll need to create a report. Reports present information from tables and queries in a format that looks great when printed.

Microsoft Access Data Manipulation
Introduction to Data Analysis
Microsoft Access / Data Manipulation
Data analysis provides the user with the ability to examine a database's records and the overall behavior of its objects. Data analysis is performed on tables, queries, and/or forms. There are two main aspects involved with data analysis: what you provide to the users and what the users may decide to do with data at their disposal. An intermediate to advanced user of Microsoft Access will know how to perform some, most, or all of the operations we will review.

The Structured Query Language
Microsoft Access / Data Manipulation
So far, to create a query we have learned to use either the Query Wizard or the Design View of a query. In both cases, we were selecting fields and adding them to the query. This concept of building a query is based on the Structured Query Language abbreviated SQL. In fact, all queries are based on SQL and this language is used by most database development environments, including Microsoft Access.

Queries and Relationships
Microsoft Access / Data Manipulation
When creating relationships among tables, we were selecting the primary key of one table and the foreign key of a dependent table to join them. Once such a relationship is created, you can create a query that combines both tables to create a set of records, also called a record set, or a Recordset, that would include either all records or isolate only the records that have entries.

Tables and Queries Aesthetics
Microsoft Access / Gettings Started
When examining records on a database, some tables are so wide the user would need to scroll left and right to see fields one screen at a time. Sometimes, the user does not need to see all fields all the time. Microsoft Access allows you to temporarily hide unneeded columns. This feature does not delete records or columns; it only hides them and can display the columns as needed. To hide columns, you have two options.
